I Tried New Maybelline Eyeshadows And…

I will admit, I am kind of a snob when it comes to my eyeshadows. When I see a small palette, it’s not something I normally want to buy or am even drawn to. There’s something about a large palette that I can create more than one or two looks from, it’s what pulls me in! This is especially true for drugstore eyeshadows. I NEVER buy the small quads or palettes, but this week I decided to be different.

I caved and bought the Maybelline City Mini Palette. I saw these colors and thought, yes! Let’s do this! I’ve also heard great things about this mascara, mostly that it’s comparable to Benefit’s, Bang mascara, so I had to pick that up as well.

The City Mini Palette x Shayla- $7.50

Total Temptation Mascara- $7.99

I got these at Target and there was a 20% off coupon for them! Yay!!

Here is a closer look..

I love this arrangement of colors. I only wish there was another matte color. There’s only one real color I will use in my crease (the dark brown).

I swatched these all the same as I do with every other shadow. The light shade is non existent and the black is patchy. The shimmers look gorgeous though. All were soft but were powdery. There was A LOT of fallout with these. Nothing like Subculture (🤭) but it’s there.

I still went with it, here’s my final look.

I liked the way my look turned out. I didn’t love it, but I liked it. I wish the black was more black, I couldn’t deepen my outer corner the way I wanted. (Side note: that inner corner and brow bone highlight is not from this palette.)

Let’s talk mascara. I actually really liked this stuff. I was expecting it to be like Benefit’s new mascara, and it wasn’t. I actually liked this one better. It didn’t lengthen my lashes like I would like, but they were fuller and voluminous as you can see from the photos above.

I wore these for about 6 hours and here’s what it looked like before I washed my face.

I set my face and used eye primer as usual, still. Most of the shadow is gone. So sad. The mascara on the other hand, was still on and looking great!

My final thoughts on the palette is a NO. 2/10. I could’ve gotten a better palette for cheaper from Wet n Wild or spent a few bucks more to get a Milani palette. As for the mascara, YES! 7/10. I will to reach for this!!

February Purchases

BH Cosmetics + ItsMyRayeRaye Palette- $22.50

I’ve wanted this palette since my girl announced she had it! I don’t understand why it took me so long to purchase it. This palette is gorgeous!! The shadows are pigmented AF! The highlights are stunning.

Catrice concealer- $5.99

Honestly, it reminds me a lot of Shape Tape and Colourpop concealer. Here is a photo of me with one eye as Catrice and the other Shape Tape… can you tell??

Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation- $42

My shade is 2N1 Desert Beige. This foundation is very full coverage and that’s something I want in a foundation. My skin has been really dry lately and it seems to stick to the dryness a little. But overall I really enjoy this foundation.

Sleek Makeup Solstice Highlighting Palette– $15

Girl, this is the highlight you’ve been missing!!! This palette has become my go to for highlight this month. It’s gorgeous, creamy, and smooth.

I couldn’t find the names of any colors so I labeled them myself. They are also swatched in the same order. All are powder highlights except for number 3. My favorite in the palette is the number 2. This shade is the perfect champagne color. Ughhh I’m in looooove with it!

Tarte Park Ave Princess Collection – $159

My husband was amazing and bought me this whole collection and the packaging is GORGEOUS. The collection comes with everything listed in this picture. I’m obsessed with the Chrome Paint shadow. It’s creamy and extremely easy to work with. The bronzer has always been a favorite of mine. But everything else is just ok for me. Nothing too crazy. The brushes kinda suck. I try to use them, but I always end up switching to my other brushes. The glosses are very sticky and the contour palette looks muddy on me.

Dr Bryant Primer- $38

Honestly, I don’t know that I’m with the hype of face primer. I don’t see it doing anything for me in general. Maybe I have found the right ones. But primer is just primer to me. So this falls right in line..

Big Bang mascara- $12

I bought the travel size because I wasn’t sure how I would like it. I LOVE their roller lash, so I assumed I’d love this too. Well, on it’s own it definitely lengthens my lashes like I’ve never seen, however it makes my lashes look spidery and clump together. I tried one of my Lancôme mascaras and then layered this overtop and it was really nice. I wouldn’t use this with falsies. I will only be using this on days when I don’t feel like wearing lashes but still wanna be a bit extra 💁🏼‍♀️.

Skin Care Routine

Hi, Loves! Today I want to talk about skincare. I’ll tell you what, I used to never believe the hype when people told me how important it was to take care of your skin. Old me: I had extremely oily skin. I never moisturized because I thought it would make the oil worse. I never washed my face. And I always had pimples. I only used Neutrogena’s Clear Pore Oil Eliminating Astringent. I am so disappointed in my former self.

Fast forward to 2018 and your girl has combo skin, that is smooth and clean most of the time. My skin is not perfect, but it’s so much better than it once was.

Makeup Remover

What I’ve used for years now to remove my makeup initially is Clinique’s Take the Day Off oil or balm. The balm is about $30 for 3.7 oz and the oil is about $17 for 6.7 oz. You add this to a dry face, rub it all over, rinseface with water and most of your makeup will be off. I love it!

Face Wash

I use many things to wash my face. I absolutely love trying new face washes. What I’ve found that works best for me is Sally Beauty’s Generic Value Product Mild Face Wash. I use this when I’m not exfoliating. Cost: $8.99 for 6.7 oz.

On days I am exfoliating I use Freeman’s Feeling Beautiful Apple Cider Vinegar 4 in 1 foaming mask + scrub. Cost: about $4.00 at Walmart for 6 oz.

Finally, a more recent discovery that I’m loving is the Glamglow Supermud Clearing Treatment. Cost: $24.00 for 0.5 oz.

Toner + Moisturizer

In the mornings I like to use the Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair with SPF. This acts as a toner as well. Cost: $18.00 for 1 oz.

However, lately I’ve discovered the Lancôme Renergie Lift Muti-Action living and firming cream with SPF and I really am liking it. Cost: $30.00 for 0.5 oz.

In the evening I go with the Rapid Repair’s sister and use the night version. Cost: $18.00 for 1 oz.

I always use an under eye cream. I have dry under eyes, so adding this step, especially before makeup, is so crucial for me! What I’ve been using is Clinique’s Rapid Repair Laser focus cream. Cost: $45.00 for 0.5 oz.

This is my favorite part of skincare. I’m obsessed with different serums. My all time two favorites are…

Nip+Fab Glycolic Fix Radiance Shot. Girl, I loooove this stuff!! I mix it with my moisturizer and it’s a serious game changer! My skin has never felt so smooth. Cost: $20 for 0.5 oz.

My second favorite serum right now is Cosmedica Skincare’s Pure Hyaluronic Acid Serum. I use this all over my neck and face and pat it gently into my skin. Cost $11 for 1 oz.

Micellar Water

I always use this after I wash my face to get off any remaining residue. You can always use this to remove makeup as well. Cost: ~$7 for 13.5 oz.

Rose Water

I use this as my final step. I spray all over my face and pat it in with my fingers. Cost: $7 for 4 oz.

*The products are not listed in the actual steps of using them

**All prices are dependent upon the store you purchase them at. I try to find everything on Amazon before I go anywhere else.

If you’re completely clueless about skincare, like I was, start at the drugstore. You can find great products for affordable prices. They always say, good makeup starts with good skincare! Here is a helpful chart to follow when you’re feeling lost.

I will now be posting once a week, I’ll be shooting for Thursday’s.

Enjoy your week!

Wet n Wild Goth-O-Graphic

Who wasn’t excited when Wet n Wild announced this collection?? I know I was. I mean, goth and holo? Yes, please!! The dark colors and glitters…ah, it could’ve been so perfect.

Now let’s get into this review.

Wet n Wild Goth-O-Graphic collection

Complete bundle $39.99.

According to Wet n Wild’s website, “Goth meets holographic in the Spring with our limited edition collection that melds broody and bright together.”

What you get: two MegaGlo highlights powers, a MegaGlo highlight stick, a MegaGlo loose highlighting powder, four MegaLast Liquid Catsuits metallic lipsticks, four MegaLast Liquid Catsuit liquid eyeshadows, and three MegaLiner Metallic liquid liner.

(Sorry, crappy iPhone pics)

I found both good and bad with this collection. Let me break the bad news first. The liners are AWFUL! Extremely disappointing.

MegaLast Metallic Liquid Liners- $3.99each. Three different shades: Skull Prayer, Pink Coffin, and Black Butterfly. (Anyone else love these names?!) The colors are gorgeous.

They look decent in this picture, but they are really streaky. Skull Prayer is the only one that wasn’t insanely streaky. But all the wands looks like this 😭:

Terrible. I suppose, if I use my own liner brush, I could make this work.

Next, MegaLast Liquid Catsuit Metallic Lipsticks. $4.99 each. They come in four colors Wicked Pink, Pastel Grunge, Gunmetal Heart, and Death to Unicorns. From the website, “These lippies deliver buildable coverage and act as the perfect holographic topper!” I would have to disagree. Again, the colors are gorgeous and look amazing swatched.

Perfect colors with the perfect amount of metallic. On the lips however, ew.

Wicked Pink:

Pastel grunge:

Gunmetal Heart:

Death to Unicorns:

They are all very dry, clumpy, and not buildable. Death to Unicorn is the only one that’s not just a slight tint of the color. This is a terrible representation of their Liquid Catsuits, because they are one of my favorite formulas out there!

On to the good news!!!

MegaLast Liquid Catsuit Liquid Eyeshadow. $4.99 each. Comes in three colors: Pure Intention, Mystic Dreamer, Goth Tears, and Nyctophilia.

These are absolutely beautiful!! I used Pure Intention and Mystic Dreamer for my look today.

I did some crease work with my Morphe Dare to Create palette. Then, I put Pure Intention all over my lid. It did great over the powder shadows and blended like a dream. I also added Mystic Dreamer to my lower lash line and blended it with a pressed shadow from the DtC palette. Overall, I love these. They aren’t full metallic, they have a lot of glitter and they remind me of the Still liquid shadows, which I’m obsessed with!

Finally, the highlights!!!

This collection comes with three, yes three, different formulas. Loose powder, pressed powder, and a stick.

MegaGlo highlighting powder- $4.99 each.

MegaGlo highlighting stick- $6.99.

MegaGlo loose highlighting powder- $6.99.

BEAUTIFUL!! Moon Tears is your loose powder. It’s subtle and would be amazing on the body, like on your collarbone or shoulders. Hell-O Darkness is the highlighting stick, and I love it! White Raven and Purple Ashes are your pressed highlights. For my look, I used Hell-O Darkness and White raven on my cheekbones and girl, I was beaming all day long!! I also put Purple Ashes in my inner corners of my eyes. This has a beautiful glow to it as well, only thing is when this one is not being hit by the light, it looks grey. I wouldn’t use this as a cheek highlight.

This picture was taken about 4 hours after I applied my makeup and after a 3 mile hike. No, that’s not sweat, it’s the highlight!!

Final thoughts

You need the highlighters and liquid shadows in your life. Skip on everything else.

Overall I give the bundle a 5/10.

Bh Cosmetics Zodiac Palette

Guys! I’ve been wanting this palette so bad, but it took me forever to actually buy it due to the sheer amount of palettes that I want in general!

Bh Cosmetics Zodiac Palette

Price: $21.99

First, packaging is adorable. It’s cardboard and sturdy. Opens up and has a giant mirror, who doesn’t love that!

This palette has 24 eyeshadows & 1 highlighter, which includes 12 baked shimmers, and 12 mattes. The shadows were are dream and blended out amazing! Even the mattes were nice and pigmented, not chalky at all. The shimmers were so creamy and fantastic to work with!

Now, the highlighter was meh for me. I attempted to use and it wasn’t the BANG that I like with my highlighters, so I used a different brand instead.

Completed look:

Application: minimal fallout and great blend-ability.

Wear: I wore this look for about 10 hours. By hour 5, the turquoise shimmer shade had sprinkled down to my cheeks and under eyes, which was disappointing. I tried to wipe it away, but the shadow smeared, so that’s a no go for me.

Overall, 7/10. I’ll definitely come back to this palette!
